A-03.0 LIGHT STUDY — GENERAL METHOD

How we read a site.

Every commission opens the same way: a single sun-path diagram, plotted for the exact site before a floor plan exists. We mark the solstice extremes and the equinox line, then watch — dawn to dusk, season to season — where the light actually falls, not where a compass says it should. The study you just scrolled through is that same instrument, simplified for the screen: one massing volume, one directional light, its position computed from time of day rather than animated by hand.

Shadows are the drawing. A wall goes where the study says light should stop, a louvre goes where it needs slowing, an oculus goes where a room needs marking at a particular hour. Nothing here claims certified solar-analysis precision for a real address — it is a design tool, evocative and hand-tuned, the way a sketch is a design tool before a working drawing is.
